Superintendent’s Greeting

Dear Colleagues, Families, and Students,

The summer months have quickly disappeared and we have had great opening days district wide. I am thankful that our district is comprised of dedicated administrators, teachers, and support staff who preparedphoto (4) during the summer months to make school opening a success. I am confident that together we can continue to move this district in a positive direction; building and strengthening our schools through strong family and community ties.

The creation of the North Brooklyn Field Support Center has brought district, central, and school based staff together working collaboratively on differentiated support at the school level. Teachers have participated in professional learning opportunities given by central and district staff. In addition, our custodial and maintenance staff members have been working throughout the summer to prepare our buildings for returning students and staff.

Here at District 13, we have increased staff to support our schools’ instructional and organizational vision. The District is pleased to welcome Zina Cooper-Williams, Principal Leadership Facilitator, Shani Jimeta, Field Support Liaison, Barbara Lewis, Director of School Renewal, Marian Burnbaum, Teacher Development and Evaluation Coach, and Lorrie Ayers, Family Support Coordinator. Precious Jones- Walker has a new title of Family Leadership Coordinator and will focus on strengthening the work of our parent coordinators and parent leadership.

I look forward to seeing many of you during our Curricula Nights on September 16th for the middle schools and on September 17th for the elementary schools. This will give families the opportunity to view and discuss the rigorous work their child will receive this school year, as well as provide an opportunity for school to share their instructional goals.

I am wishing everyone a successful school year!

Barbara Freeman, Superintendent
